How We Rate Casinos

The criteria, weights and data sources behind International Casino List ratings, and the rules that get a casino removed from the directory.

  6. Frequently asked questions

Every casino in this directory gets a rating from 1 to 5. The rating summarises what the casino’s licence, terms and tools mean for a Nordic player. It is not a prediction of any individual withdrawal, and it is never sold.

Entry checks (pass or fail)

  1. The licence can be confirmed in a regulator’s register or through a working licence seal on the casino’s own site.
  2. The operating company and its registration number are published.
  3. The current terms do not exclude Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland by name.
  4. No Nordic regulator has banned the operator. Bans follow the operator across domains.
  5. The casino is open to players; pre-launch domains are listed for information only, without links or ratings.

Criterion Weight What we look at
Licence and complaint route 30% Regulator inside or outside the EEA, public register, ADR access
Bonus terms 25% Wagering multiple and base, time limit, maximum bet, maximum conversion, excluded games
Payments and payouts 20% Methods, processing time, daily and monthly caps, minimum withdrawal
Player-protection tools 15% Self-serve deposit or loss limits, reality checks, self-exclusion scope
Transparency 10% Dated terms, clear excluded-country list, consistent offer wording

Data sources, in order of preference

  1. Regulators’ registers and decisions (MGA, EMTA, CGA, Anjouan seal validation, Spelinspektionen, Lotteritilsynet, Spillemyndigheden, the Finnish police).
  2. The operator’s own terms, bonus terms and payments pages, fetched from a Nordic connection.
  3. Official tax guidance (Skatteverket, Skatteetaten, Skattestyrelsen, Vero).
  4. Reputable trade press, only where no primary source exists, and always named.

Removal rules

A casino is removed when its licence can no longer be confirmed, when a Nordic regulator bans its operator, when it starts excluding Nordic players, when it closes, or when its terms change so that our published data is wrong and cannot be re-verified. Removed brands are named on the relevant page with the reason.

What ratings do not cover

We do not rate individual games’ fairness, and we do not publish test deposits or withdrawals that we have not made. Tax and legal notes describe the general rules and are not personal advice. See our about page for how we earn money, and the full table for current ratings.

Frequently asked questions

Can a casino pay for a higher rating?

No. Ratings follow the published criteria. Commercial agreements do not change scores or positions, and a casino we have a commercial agreement with that fails an entry check is removed like any other.

How often are ratings reviewed?

Whenever a casino’s terms version changes, a regulator acts against its operator, or a reader reports an error, and at least at each page update.
